We got our rapid disaster response team on the ground ASAP to do some much-needed drying out to prevent any more water from getting in. Once we had the building secured, we got to work on clearing out the mess and the damaged brick that was holding us back. Only once the site was safe and stable could we get on with the full reroofing of the church. And what we ended up with was a brand-new shingle roof system that not only gives the church long-term protection but also manages to keep its historic look intact, quite an achievement.
St. Wenceslaus Church is a real treasure in the Cedar Rapids IA community, and its history runs deep. When the derecho came through and caused all that damage, the church really needed a team like ours that could step in and help protect it. By doing the repairs and giving the place a new roof, we showed that JR&CO is a committed partner who’s there to lend a helping hand when disaster strikes. We helped save a piece of history that now gets to keep serving its Iowa community for years to come.
In August 2020, the historic St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids was heavily damaged by the derecho storm that swept through the area. The high winds caused significant harm to the building, making immediate action critical. JR&CO stepped in quickly to protect the structure and begin the roofing restoration process.
